About Our Group

Back in the spring of 2009, I had occasionally met with friends during the weekends for coffee. I was surprised to rediscover how fun and great it was to sit around, chat with friends and play games while passing the time on a lazy weekend afternoon. As a result, I learned that all you need to have some fun is a pack of playing cards and some friends to play with.

So amazed at this (re)discovery, I created Boston Cards & Conversation to allow others to share in the fun. Today, C&C is now the largest general gaming group in Boston. Most of their events are north of the city.

As the group grew, we attracted more members who live south and west of Boston. To help provide a base for events closer to these members, Mass Fun and Games was born!




Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who is eligible to join MFG, and what is required?
A: Anyone who lives in or around southeast Massachusetts is welcome to join us. We do not discriminate by age --- all are welcome. We have found that games and other fun events are a wonderful way to meet people.

We do have a couple of requirements, however:

Profile Requirements

• You must fill out your profile with meaningful answers which lets us know more about you.
  
• If you have not filled out your profile with information about yourself, you will be asked to fill the rest of it out and/or your membership may be declined due to insufficient information.
  

Photo Requirement

• We strongly suggest that you upload a REAL photograph of yourself to your profile. This is a measure to have full transparency in our group, eliminate lurkers & have active members in our group. It also allows us to easily identify you at events, and makes the group more social.
  

Q: Do I need to be an expert at [insert game here]?
A: Absolutely not! Our group contains many "amateur" game players, and our players are not competitive. Many of our sessions are spent learning and trying out new games -- so we are all beginners in a sense. Remember, this group is not just about playing cards and board games -- they are merely a means to get people together, make friends, and have fun. Some of our members just prefer to chat and socialize, and don't play any games at all!

Q: Will I be able to play [insert game here]?
A: Yes, if there is enough interest. All card and board games are welcome at our open events. Just bring it to an event... most of our members are always interested in learning new games.

Q: Where do you meet / play?
A: Although most of our events are in the Norwood / Dedham area, we have events all over southeastern Massachusetts. On occasion, we'll even play in Providence! Each location is chosen to provide comfortable setting to meet people and have some fun. If you have a suggestion for a location that could handle 10-15 people, please let us know, and we'll check it out!





Q: Is this a singles/dating/matchmaking group?
A: Although some of our members are single, we are not a singles group. We want to provide a safe, friendly and fun atmosphere for everybody, and both singles and couples of all ages are welcome.

This is not a dating group. This is about making new friends through fun events. It's great if the single people get along at our events and end up dating, but please don't join if this is your sole motivation.

Q: Are there any fees for joining the group?
A: There are no mandatory fees for our events at this time. If you come to event regularly, we recommend a donation of $1 per event to cover our Meetup website expenses.
